The Kawasaki W650 is a retro - motorcycle of the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki , which in 1999 came on the market and its sale in late 2006 was discontinued in Europe. In Japan it was also offered as the W 400 with minimal changes. In 2011 the successor model W800 appeared .
origin
The design is based heavily on English motorcycles from the 1960s , such as the BSA A7 or the Triumph Bonneville . The "W" in the model name refers to Kawasaki's W1, W2 and W3 models that were built between 1966 and 1975.
construction
The four-stroke engine is designed with a long stroke in line with the British models from the "roaring sixties" . As a special design feature, it should be emphasized that the overhead camshaft is driven by a vertical shaft instead of the usual timing chain . The motorcycle can be started with a kick starter or an electric starter.
The fuel tank holds 15 liters, of which 3 liters are in reserve.
Facelift 1999–2006
The W 650 was slightly modified over the years through several model updates. Among other things, it has been equipped with a U-Kat since 2004 , which complies with the Euro2 standard .

Reviews
“Are you looking for a youngtimer, but you don't feel like restoring it and don't have time? Kawasaki's retro twin offers reliable technology in the finest oldie packaging and is also a good buy as a used one. "
“Plus: clean throttle response from 1500 rpm; sophisticated, economical engine; neutral, handy chassis. Minus: soft front suspension, hard rear; only average braking power; Seat too short for two-man operation. "
