Kawasaki ZX-R

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kawasaki ZX-R is a series designation for super sports bikes and superbikes from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki . Selected models have been named Ninja since 1984 . For the series, the bright green color of the full fairing, preferred by some buyers, is stylistically and has since run through the entire Kawasaki product portfolio (available for almost all models) and now determines the entire appearance of the motorcycle brand (website, dealer - CI , merchandise). The model abbreviation “ZX” was taken over from the internal designation of the four-cylinder GPZ series, which in turn continued the “Z” from the Z series of the 1970s.

Overview

"Ninja" series

In 1984 Kawasaki launched the Kawasaki GPZ900R, which was first sold as the "Ninja". Since then, sporty motorcycles have often been sold with this designation based on the brand's motorsport successes. Since there is no uniform classification in relation to the nickname, only those motorcycles are listed here that were and are marketed as "Ninja" in Germany. In other markets, the motorcycles of the ZZR series, GPZ series and partly also the ER-xx series are considered "ninja". Although, for example, the ZXR400 and ZXR750 models were also available painted in bright green and are often called ninja because of their sporty and optical design, this was not an official (sales) name in this country.
