Kawasaki ER-6 is the name of two motorcycle models from the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki , which were built as successors to the Kawasaki ER-5 series from 2006 to 2016. A distinction was made between the ER-6n (naked) without and the ER-6f (faired) with disguise. The ER-6f is sold in the United States under the brand name Kawasaki Ninja 650R . For the 2017 model year, the ER-6n will be marketed as the Z 650 and the ER-6f will also adopt the name Ninja for the European market and will be marketed as the Ninja 650 .

General

Kawasasi ER-6f, model 2015 (series from 2012)

It is designed for the entry-level market because of its comparatively low price, simple handling and the optionally available throttling to 25 kW (34 PS) and 35 kW (48 PS) and mainly competes with the Suzuki Gladius and the Honda CBF600 (until 2013).

ABS has been standard since 2007 . The engine has an electronic manifold injection .

Due to the comparatively low seat height of 785 mm (ER-6n) or 790 mm (ER-6f), the ER-6 is particularly suitable for smaller people. From 2012 the seat height is 805 mm for both versions. A seat that is 3 cm deeper than the standard seat is available as an accessory.

The ER-6 is powered by a completely redesigned two-cylinder in - line engine (counter-rotating parallel twin ), which only took over the basic concept from the previous ER-5 model. As with many current motorcycles, the ER-6 has an analog-digital display mix of the instruments. In this case the tachometer is analog and the speedometer and odometer readings are digital.

The maximum speed is 200 km / h (ER-6n) / 205 km / h (ER-6f), the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 3.9 seconds (ER-6f).

A special feature is the rear silencer located centrally under the engine, the principle of which was copied from the former motorcycle manufacturer Buell .

The F variant differs from the N variant in terms of full cladding and a different instrument panel, which results in further differences in terms of total weight, top speed and purchase price.

Model updates

2007 model

ABS will be offered as standard in Germany from model year 2007.

2009 model

With the 2009 vintage, the ER6 was given a facelift. Basically, the design became more "angular". So the headlight mask changed and got bigger. The parking light bulbs were pulled up and the headlights adapted to the design. The lines of the tank and radiator covers have also been changed. The rear lights and indicators are now built in as an LED version. The instrument panel has also become larger, as have the instruments themselves. The mix of analogue and digital display has been retained, but the speedometer display is now analogue and the tachometer is integrated in the digital multifunctional display. The swing arm, on the other hand, has been adapted to the frame design and is therefore "rounder". The rear axle now has a small wheel cover.

In the F model, the full fairing has been adapted to the angular design, and the previously analog instruments have been replaced by a digital display.

2012 model

The 2012 vintage brought more profound modifications. The frame and swing arm have been completely redesigned and designed as a double tube. The engine has been retuned and designed for even more torque in the medium speed range. The radiator covers have become smaller, also because the front indicators are now installed in the "classic" way on outriggers. The rear was a bit shorter and the rear light changed. The previously one-piece bench gave way to a tandem solution. The instrument panel was changed again. The speedometer and tachometer exchanged the display formats again, so that the tachometer is analogous at the beginning. The tank has been enlarged slightly.

The F variant received a change in the full fairing and the instrument panel gave way to a digital-analog variant, which is based on that of the N model.
