The Antwerp-Luchtbal station is a station of the NMBS / SNCB in the northern Belgian city of Antwerp . It is located on the Antwerp – Netherlands railway line . Only regional trains stop at the six platform tracks . The trains connect Antwerp-Luchtbal with Roosendaal , Essen and Antwerp Central Station . Until 1878 the station was called Merksem Station. The current station was only built in 2006 because of the new construction of the high-speed line HSL 4 ( high-speed line Schiphol – Antwerp ). The station was completely rebuilt, next to the Antwerp Ring . The station is mostly used by commuters and cinema-goers, as there is a large cinema complex in the immediate vicinity. Since October 2007, line 6 of the Antwerp tram has also stopped at the station.
