The Brussels-North train station ( French Gare de Bruxelles-Nord , Dutch Station Brussel-Noord ) is one of the three large train stations in Brussels with twelve tracks. It is located in the municipality of Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek within the bilingual Brussels-Capital region , north of the city of Brussels . After the Brussels Center and Brussels South train stations , it is the train station with the third largest number of passengers in Brussels, and it is also the fourth largest train station in Belgium after the aforementioned Brussels train stations and the Gent-Sint-Pieters train station .

history

The old station building (1910)
Track side with the striking clock tower

In the 19th century, by order of the Belgian King Leopold I , there was a predecessor station on Place Rogier just a few hundred meters south of today's North Station . Construction began on September 28, 1841 and was finished in March 1846. This terminus had 27 tracks. In 1952 a new station building was built about a hundred meters north of Place Rogier at a new through station on the Brussels north-south connecting line. The old building from 1846 was demolished in 1956.

Station Gare du Nord / Noordstation of the Prémétro / Premetro

In Brussels, the North Station with its twelve tracks is the most important regional hub today. The international train connections Thalys , TGV and ICE trains to France , the Netherlands and Germany as well as the Eurostar trains to London all operate from the South Station. Since the 2009 winter schedule, however, the ICE International has also stopped at Brussels North station. About 30 bus lines stop at the stops around the train station. The Premetro line 4 ends here. It is also the northern terminus of the underground north-south connecting line .
