List of train stations in Belgium |
The Brussels-Schuman station ( French Gare de Bruxelles-Schuman , Dutch station Brussel-Schuman ) is a tunnel station in the Belgian capital Brussels , which was opened in 1969. It is named after the French politician Robert Schuman . Part of the station is located below the Berlaymont building .
traffic
Below the train station is the metro station of the same name , where you can change to lines 1 and 5. Various bus lines also stop at the train station. Intercity trains and the Brussels S-Bahn stop at the two tracks .
The Schuman metro station was opened in the course of the Premetro construction at the same time as the train station in 1969. The Premetro trains had their final stop there until September 20, 1976, from then on the Premetro was replaced by the new U-Bahn.
The station was rebuilt between 2008 and 2016 and expanded by two tracks, which are required for the new tunnel section of the Josaphat – Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek railway line . The tunnel route enables a faster connection to Leuven , Antwerp and Brussels-Zaventem Airport (the latter could only be approached later than planned due to the terrorist attacks of March 22, 2016). After the renovation, the station is one of the largest and most important in the city.
