The Antwerp-Berchem Station is a station of the NMBS / SNCB in the same district of the Belgian city of Antwerp . It is the second most important train station in the city after Antwerp Centraal . InterCity , InterRegio and regional trains stop at the ten platform tracks . The trains connect Antwerpen-Berchem with Lille , Ostend , Charleroi , Ghent , Liège , Leuven and Brussels, among others .
Tram lines 8 and 11 stop at the station, as well as various bus lines that connect the station with the suburbs of Antwerp.
The station was opened in 1863 under the name "Berchem". From 1975 the station was also used by international trains, which until then had only stopped in Antwerpen-Oost, and therefore renamed "Berchem (Antwerp)". After the incorporation of Berchem in Antwerp, the station finally got its current name.
The trains to Paris and Amsterdam ( Thalys and Beneluxtrein ) had stopped in Antwerpen-Berchem until December 9, 2007 in order to avoid the detour via the Antwerpen-Centraal terminus. However, since the completion of the new railway tunnel below the main station, it has been possible to pass through without stopping, so that Antwerpen-Berchem has not been used since then.
