The 200 series (from 1971 series 51 ) of the Belgian State Railways (NMBS / SNCB) is a series of six-axle diesel-electric mainline diesel locomotives . It was the second diesel locomotive type of the NMBS / SNCB next to the 205 series .
development
The 200 series was created on the basis of the 201 series and, like this, should be used primarily on the flat land routes in Flanders . It was designed by Cockerill and ACEC from 1961 . The first order of 53 locomotives was followed by a second of 40 with slight modifications while they were being delivered. With an output of 1450 kilowatts (2000 hp), they were the most powerful series locomotives in Belgium. They were used both in front of freight and passenger trains , including the TEE in the direction of the Netherlands .
The total of 93 locomotives were primarily based in Charleroi , Liège , Antwerp and Brussels . In the 1990s, their use increasingly shifted to freight transport, especially on the routes to the Antwerp port . With the delivery of the 77 series at the beginning of the 2000s, the 200 series began to be phased out. The last copies were in operation in August 2003.
Eleven locomotives were sold to Italy between 2007 and 2009. Two more were sold to Seco-Rail . Five locomotives were donated to clubs as historic vehicles, and another was retained as a museum vehicle by the NMBS / SNCB.
200.101 / 5001
In 1969, the NMBS / SNCB decided to equip the vehicle 200.001 with a 4000 hp engine, which was installed in 1971. The vehicle was given the car number 200.101 to distinguish it, the number 5001 with the redesignation of the Belgian locomotives, and a blue apron. In addition, an electric heater was installed instead of the steam generator previously used. The specimen operated in the hilly regions of Wallonia . In 1981 it was dismantled to the 5101.
