Small motorcycle

Austria

In Austria, small motorcycle is the name for a single-track motor vehicle with a cubic capacity of less than 50 cm³ with no legal limit on the maximum speed (in contrast to motorcycles , which have a maximum speed of 45 km / h (since harmonization by the EU, before 40 km /H)).

Small motorcycles were allowed to be driven from the age of 16 with the driver's license A J or A K (approx. 1978 to June 30, 1991) or A K (July 1, 1991 to October 31, 1997). With the discontinuation of class A J , the attractiveness decreased significantly. The 1997 Driving License Act no longer provided a separate driving license for this class, which meant that small motorcycles, as well as other light motorcycles, could only be driven from the age of 18, lost their attractiveness and disappeared from the market. However, existing small motorcycles can still be registered and used as such. The small motorcycles correspond to the German small motorcycles of the 1970s.

Mark

The license plates of the small motorcycles were initially identical to those of the other motorcycles. Since small motorcycles were not allowed to use motorways , a thick orange stripe was introduced at the lower end of the license plate shortly after the introduction to differentiate them from motorcycles with more displacement. The small motorcycle license plates without this stripe remained valid. From January 1, 1990, white two-line license plates measuring 250 mm × 200 mm were issued. Starting in 2007, normal motorcycle license plates measuring 210 mm × 170 mm will be issued for small motorcycles.

Driving license class

To drive a small motorcycle either a driver's license with class A, A J or A K was required. Class A was only accessible from the age of 18, classes A J and A K were limited to small motorcycles and accessible from 16 years of age. Class A J was limited to a maximum of 50 cubic centimeters up to the age of 18, class A K was limited to a maximum of 50 cubic centimeters (with no time limit). All those who once did the A J are now in class A. If you have A K transferred to the driver's license in credit card format, you will be granted class A with the code 79.
