Wolfgang Stropek

Wolfgang Stropek (born April 18, 1945 in Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting , Upper Austria ) is a former Austrian motorcycle racer and national champion in the class up to 500 cm³.

Stropek started motorcycle racing at the age of 16. He took part in the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man and, along with Chris Vincent, is the only racing driver to have scored world championship points as both a motorcycle racer and a sidecar driver ( two-stroke era).

He has been married to his wife Margit since 1967; a common son, Mario.

Until 1976 Stropek was in various solo classes on various makes by Puch , AJS , Norton , MV Agusta , Yamaha and in 1977 switched to the sidecar class, where he took part in the world championship races in Europe and overseas until 1990 (makes: König , Schmid- Yamaha, Siwa-Yamaha, LCR ).

After completing his active career and excursions into the classic car scene, where he also competed in races in several countries, Stropek has been organizing classic car and racing events since 2003, in particular the highlight of Austria's motorcycle scene, the Oldtimer Grand Prix until 2009 at the Salzburgring and since then at the Red Bull Ring , the " Rupert Hollaus Memorial Race ". The event is organized by the IG Formel Classic www.igfc.at association.
