Horst Fügner

Horst Fügner (born March 11, 1923 in Chemnitz ; † November 22, 2014 there ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Career

Horst Fügner drove motorcycle races from 1950. In 1955 he was the first GDR road champion in the class up to 125 cm³. In the road championship of the FRG he finished second behind Karl Lottes ( MV Agusta ) in the same year .

Fügner was a works driver at MZ in Zschopau and took part in the motorcycle world championship from 1957 to 1959 . His greatest success was the vice world championship title in 1958 in the 250 cc class behind the Italian MV Agusta works driver Tarquinio Provini . He achieved the only Grand Prix victory of his career at the Swedish Grand Prix in Hedemora .

After a serious fall while training for the 125cc race for the 1959 Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps , Horst Fügner had to end his career.

Horst Fügner died on November 22, 2014 in his hometown of Chemnitz at the age of 91.
