Albino Milani
Albino Milani (born December 11, 1910 in Garbagnate Milanese , † August 9, 2001 in Milan ) was an Italian motorcycle racer .
Milani started in the sidecar class and was in 1952 as a Gilera -Werksfahrer vice-champion.
Career
Albino Milani came from a motorsport-loving family. His younger brother Alfredo was also a motorcycle racer and, as a Gilera works driver, was runner-up behind Geoff Duke in the 500 cc class in 1951 . Brother Rossano took the place of the passenger in Albino's team for years in the 1950s. Together, the three operated in Milan a successful repair and restoration business for motorcycles .
Albino Milani began his career in the 1930s with regional reliability drives. In 1936 he won the Italian motorcycle road championship in the 350 cc class on Norton .
After the Second World War , Milani started in the sidecar class of the newly created motorcycle world championship in 1949 . In 1951 he and his co-driver Giuseppe Pizzocri on Gilera celebrated the first Grand Prix victory of his career at the Grand Prix of Nations in Monza . He became the second Italian after Ercole Frigerio to win the sidecar class. Behind the British Norton duo Eric Oliver / Denis Jenkinson and their brand colleagues Ercole Frigerio / Ezio Ricotti, Milani / Pizzocri achieved third place overall.
At the start of the 1952 season, Milani / Pizzocri won the Swiss Grand Prix in Bremgarten , in which Gilera works team colleague Ercole Frigerio had a fatal accident. This was followed by second place in Belgium and third place at the Nations Grand Prix, whereby the duo took second place in the overall standings behind the British Cyril Smith / Bob Clements and Les Nutt, the best World Cup placement in Milani's career represents.
In 1956 and 1957 , Albino Milani, with his brother Rossano in the boat , won the Nations' Grand Prix in Monza two more times on a Gilera four-cylinder team.
Albino Milani died on August 9, 2001 at the age of 90 in Milan .
