Career
Hans Spaan started from 1980 and 1994 in classes up to 50 cm³ , 80 cm³ and 125 cm³ of the motorcycle world championship . Between 1980 and 1987 Spaan took part in the 50 and 80 cm³ world championships on different makes with little success. His breakthrough came when he switched to the 125 cc class in 1988 , when he immediately finished third in the overall standings on a Honda . In the 1989 and 1990 seasons , Spaan Àlex Crivillé and Loris Capirossi were only just beaten and became runner-up world champions. At the end of the 1994 season, Hans Spaan ended his active career in which he won nine Grand Prix victories, two runner-up titles and nine Dutch championship titles in the classes up to 50 cm³, 80 cm³ and 125 cm³ .
After his driving career, Spaan built a team in the 125 cc World Championship together with another Dutch ex-racing driver, Arie Molenaar . Already in the first year, 1995 , the Japanese Haruchika Aoki celebrated winning the 125cc world title and even defended the title in the following season. He then worked, in addition to his role as chief mechanic at Molenaar Racing , with Suzuki , who from 1997 were again involved in the 250 cc world championship. In the 2000 season , Spaan worked as technical director for the Dutch Rizla Honda team, which competed in the 500 cm³ class with Jürgen van den Goorbergh on a V2 TSR Honda. He also worked again with Haruchika Aoki. Afterwards, Hans Spaan concentrated again on the work for the Molenaar team and in the 2007 season took care of the motorcycles of the British Danny Webb and the Dutch Joey Litjens in the 125 cc class.
