Daytona 200

The Daytona 200 is a 68 lap and 322 km long motorcycle race. It is held annually at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach , Florida .
history
The race evolved from a 3.2 mile beach race ( Daytona Beach Road Course ) in 1937 to a 2 mile race at Daytona International Speedway in 1961.
Due to the growing interest in speed and the rebuilding of the NASCAR route after the 2004 season, the Daytona organizers made two changes for the 2005 race. First, the Premiers AMA Superbike series race was cut from 200 miles (322 kilometers) to 62 miles (100 kilometers) and a Formula Xtreme series race was introduced. In addition, the route was changed. As a result of this conversion, the total route of the Daytona 200 was shortened by half a mile. In 2009, the Daytona SportBikes race opened the event. This racing series follows with the sale of the AMA Pro series to Daytona Motorsports on March 7, 2008.
The Daytona 200 is one of the busiest motorcycle races in America. Nine FIM world champions, including seven world champions in the 500 cm³ or MotoGP class, have won it so far. Of the American champions of recent years, only Kenny Roberts, Jr. not yet won the Daytona 200. Finnish and Venezuelan world champions won the lower categories .
Scott Russell and Miguel Duhamel have the most titles at the Daytona 200 with five wins each. Russel is therefore also known as Mr. Daytona because he was able to win all races in the Superbike class (750-1000 cm³). He achieved his fifth victory in the Formula Xtreme (600 cm³) racing class, which was newly introduced in 2005.
That of Steve Rapp victory achieved in 2007 was the first for Kawasaki since 1995 and the first victory for a non-factory rider since John Ashmead 1989th
