Autópálya M3 ( Hungarian for 'M3 motorway') is a motorway in Hungary. It runs in a west-east direction from the capital Budapest to Nyíregyháza and via the M30 to Miskolc . The driveway is in Budapest on the Hungária körút. The first 10 km run in the urban area and are run as an expressway. In the final stage, the motorway should enable the connection to Ukraine .

In August 2006 another section ( Nyíregyháza bypass ) was completed in the north-east of the country.

In September 2007 the motorway between Polgár and Nyíregyháza was opened to traffic. The M35 , which connects to Debrecen , branches off at Polgár .

At Vásárosnamény, the M34 will in future branch off northwards to Záhony .

On January 16, 2013, the missing piece between Nyíregyháza and Vaja was opened to traffic. In June 2013 construction began on the section from Vaja towards Vásárosnamény. The 12 km section was opened on October 10, 2014.

The total length of the road is 307 kilometers, 280 km of which are in operation and 27 km are being planned.

Traffic volume

The motorway is part of the pan- European pan- European traffic corridor Corridor V: Venice-Trieste-Ljubljana-Maribor-Budapest-Uzhgorod-Lviv-Kiev and therefore plays an important role in east-west transit. The motorway is one of the most important hotspots on the Hungarian road network and part of the main diagonal traffic line from the southwest to the northeast to the east of Budapest . Offers express road connections via Ukraine to Eastern Europe and via Slovakia to Northern Europe .

The M3 in Hungary is almost entirely chargeable. From exit 11 at Szentmihályi út to Vásárosnamény everything is chargeable for cars and trucks.

Hungaroring is located around 19 km from Budapest, directly on the motorway .

Effects

In the course of the construction work, numerous rescue excavations were carried out for archaeological sites, e.g. B. in Füzesabony-Gubakút .
