Jorge Goncalvez

Jorge Andrés Goncalvez (born June 14, 1991 in Los Teques ) is a Venezuelan racing car driver . He competed in the Indy Lights from 2011 to 2013 .

Career

Goncalvez began his motorsport career in karting in 2001 , where he was active until 2006. In 2006 he made his debut in formula racing and took part in a Formula Renault 1.6 Panam GP Series race, which he immediately finished on the podium. Then Goncalvez competed in the French Formula Renault Campus in 2007 and finished 14th in the championship. In 2008 Goncalvez returned to America and started for Apex-HBR Racing Team in the American Formula BMW . With a fourth place as the best result, he finished the season in seventh place overall.

In 2009 Goncalvez moved to AIM Motorsport in the Star Mazda Series and finished his first season in ninth place overall. He then took part in the winter championship of the Start Mazda Series for Team Apex in 2009/2010 and won the championship title. Goncalvez then competed in the Star Mazda Series for Team Apex in 2010. With five second places as the best results, he finished fourth overall.

In 2011 Goncalvez started for Belardi Auto Racing in the Indy Lights . With a second place as the best result, he finished the season in fifth place in the drivers' standings. Within the team, he prevailed against Anders Krohn with 371 to 333 points . In 2012 , Goncalvez stayed with Belardi Auto Racing in the Indy Lights. With a sixth place as the best result, he finished the season in tenth place. Goncalvez also took part in two races in the Rolex Sports Car Series in 2012 . For Michael Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian he started the 24-hour race in Daytona and finished third with his team-mates Michael McDowell , Felipe Nasr and Gustavo Yacamán . In 2013 , Goncalvez completed his third Indy Lights season for Belardi Auto Racing. While his teammate Peter Dempsey stood on the podium several times and won a race, two fourth places were Goncalvez's best results. He was sixth at the end of the season. Besides the master Sage Karam , Goncalvez was the only rider to finish every race.

Personal

Goncalve's nickname El Pollito translates as little chicken . On the back of his helmet there is a little chicken with these words on it. Goncalves got the nickname because his father, nicknamed Big Chicken, is the owner of one of the largest poultry farms in Venezuela.
