Peter Dempsey

Peter Dempsey (born March 31, 1986 in Dublin ) is an Irish racing driver . He took part in a few races of the Indy Lights from 2011 to 2013 .

Career

Dempsey began his motorsport career in karting in 1995 , where he remained active until 2000. In 2004 he moved into the single-seater racing and was 22 in the British Formula BMW . In 2005 he competed in the Northern Irish Formula Ford 1600 and won the championship title. In 2006 Dempsey switched to the British Formula Ford. He won four races and finished the season in third place overall. He also took part in several Formula Ford individual events in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 he only took part in two British Formula Ford races. He also took part in several individual Formula Ford events and won four of these events.

In 2008 Dempsey moved to North America in the Star Mazda Series for Andersen Racing . He decided four out of twelve races for himself and finished the season behind John Edwards and Joel Miller in third place. He also took part in two races each of the British Formula Ford and the F2000 Championship Series . In 2009 Dempsey stayed in the Star Mazda Series and competed for AIM Motorsport . With five wins from thirteen races Dempsey lost the title duel against Adam Christodoulou with 461 to 473 points. In 2010 Dempsey could not find a cockpit for a full season and he competed in a race in the American Le Mans Series and in Formula Ford individual events.

In 2011 Dempsey switched to Indy Lights . First he took part in five events for O2 Racing Technology , then he completed five races for Andretti Autosport . Dempsey finished four races on the podium. A second place was his best result. At the end of the season he was tenth overall. In 2012 Dempsey was again active as a part-time pilot in the Indy Lights. At first he contested two races for Younessi Racing , at the end of the season he completed the last five races for Belardi Auto Racing . With fourth place as the best result, he was eleventh overall. In 2013 Dempsey received a full-time cockpit in the Indy Lights at Belardi Auto Racing. He won his first Indy Lights race at the Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway . With a margin of 0.0026 seconds, Dempsey set the record for the closest finish on the route. He finished second in three races. Although he was the best driver on his team, he lost his cockpit two races before the end of the season. He drove one of the last two races for the Moore Racing team . Dempsey finished the season in fifth place overall.
