Niall Tóibín (born November 21, 1929 in Cork , Ireland , † November 13, 2019 in Dublin ) was an Irish comedian and actor .

life and career

Tóibín grew up in Bishop's Field, on the northern outskirts of his native Cork, in a family where only Irish was spoken. After school at the North Monastery, he left Cork and worked in Dublin from January 1947. He began acting in the 1950s and spent 15 years with the Radio Éireann Players.

His acting work in film and television spans over four decades. In the 1970s, he starred in Ryan's Daughter (Ryan's Daughter) and Bracken . The 1980s spawned series appearances on The Irish RM and Caught in a Free State . He played roles in other films in Die Journalistin (Veronica Guerin), In a distant land (Far and Away) and The American Nephew (The Nephew) . He became famous for his leading role as a priest in the series Ballykissangel , which was produced from 1996 to 2001. Tóibín also worked on the radio, such as a guest appearance on the BBC radio 4 series Baldi .

In 1973, Tóibín received the Jacob's Award for his portrayal in the RTÉ comedy series If The Cap Fits . Tóibín commuted back and forth between New York and his native Dublin. The father of five was married to Judy Kenny from 1957 until her death in 2002.
