Asō Takeharu ( Japanese 麻 生 武 治 ; born November 21, 1899 in Azabu , Tokyo City (today: Minato , Tokyo ), Japan ; † May 30, 1993 ) was a Japanese mountaineer , Nordic skier and track and field athlete .

Career

Asō studied at Waseda University and was later also at the German University for Physical Education in Berlin . As a mountaineer , he was one of the first Japanese to climb the Matterhorn in Switzerland in 1923 and the Yarigatake in Japan in winter on skis in 1924 .

At the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, he was a member of the Japanese delegation in Nordic skiing . The Japanese skiers made their debut at the Olympic Winter Games . Asō was intended for the two cross-country skiing competitions , but failed because of the internal qualification for the competition over 18 km. In the endurance run over 50 km, he had to retire in 27th place just before the 38th kilometer. With his start in this competition he is the first Japanese participant in Olympic skiing competitions.

He then lived in Norway for some time and took part in the FIS races in Oslo in 1930 , which were later declared the 7th Nordic World Ski Championships . Here, too, he started again in cross-country skiing over 50 km and reached 63rd place.

At the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , he took part as a trainer for Japanese Nordic skiers.

In result lists his name is also referred to as Take Aso or, under the misreading, Takeji Aso .
