Andrew Love

Andrew Maurice Love (born November 21, 1941 in Memphis , Tennessee , † April 12, 2012 ibid) was an American musician ( woodwind instruments ) and songwriter .

Love's main instruments were saxophones in different pitches. He was the dark-skinned half of the core of the legendary Memphis Horns and the longtime partner of Wayne Jackson . Together they released several albums on the pioneering music label Stax Records , received numerous awards and accompanied many greats in the American and worldwide music business over five generations.

For reasons of age, Love retired from the active music business in the 2000s. He died of Alzheimer's disease in April 2012 after his longtime band, The Memphis Horns, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in February 2012 .
