Dolphin Connect
An add-on for the Chrome , Firefox and Safari desktop browsers called "Dolphin Connect" can be downloaded from the Play Store in the app description . With this extension it is possible, as soon as you have an account with Dolphin, to exchange websites between the Android / iOS devices and the PC. After installing the add-on on the PC, you have to log in so that the devices are recognized and synchronized. A website can then be sent to the computer and vice versa on the smartphone or tablet. Open tabs on a device can also be viewed and opened from another smartphone / tablet or PC. It was also possible to send a route on Google Maps from the PC to a device, but this is no longer possible due to the website changes. This function can currently be carried out with the App Store to conveniently download apps with the iPhone, iPod or iPad.
Dolphin browser with engine
With Dolphin Browser Beta , a version with a specially developed HTML5 rendering engine was released in August 2012 . According to html5test.com, this version is one of the most compatible and fastest HTML 5-capable web browsers for Android, with over 450 out of a possible 500 points.
Dolphin Browser Jetpack
With the browser add-on Dolphin Browser Jetpack , the specially developed HTML-5 rendering engine can be retrofitted to the Dolphin browser. Up to version 6.x you used the Webkit engine, which was installed as the standard browser instead of Chrome on many devices. Over time, the result on html5test.com became worse than with other browsers. In addition, there were problems with the rendering, so that complex websites or websites in desktop mode constantly blinked when scrolling. There were also frequent crashes. However, when version 7.0 was released, the Blink engine from Chrome was used from now on, so that the loading speeds improved and the result of the HTML5 test improved enormously, and the rendering problems disappeared. Versions from 7.x will be available for Android 4.3 or higher; Versions below Android 4.3 are only compatible with Jetpack 6.x. In addition, unlike the Dolphin Browser Beta , it is available in the Google Play Store.
Privacy concerns
In October 2011, privacy concerns were raised about the Dolphin browser, as it sent every URL called in clear text to a server belonging to the developer. In response to this criticism, the developers announced in a blog entry that the tracking function was required for a feature called Webzine, but that no data would be permanently stored. According to the blog entry, the function was deactivated with version 7.0.2.
