Johann Georg Christian Apel

Johann Georg Christian Apel (born November 21, 1775 in Tröchtelborn , † August 31, 1841 in Preetz ) was a German organist and composer .

Life

Johann Georg Christian Apel was the son of the organist Johann Georg Apel. His musical teachers were Georg Peter Weimar , Michael Gotthard Fischer , Johann Wilhelm Häßler and Johann Christian Kittel . Initially, Apel took over a number of musical offices in Erfurt , where he was organist at the St. Thomas Church from 1796, in 1801 he became a music teacher at the Catholic grammar school and in 1802 organist at the All Saints Church. In 1804 Apel went to Kiel as a Nikolaiorganist. From 1808 he also exercised the office of sexton and from 1810 the office of cantor at the Nikolaikirche in Kiel. Due to his extraordinary musical abilities, Apel was appointed the first academic music director of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in 1818 . He held this office until his death in 1841.
