Violeta Stephen

Violeta Celeste Stephen Vanterpool (born November 21, 1929 in San Pedro de Macorís ) is a Dominican singer.

Stephan sang at the age of five in the Anglican Episcopal Church in her hometown, where she received her training in music theory, solfège and piano. She learned the English language and took singing lessons. As a representative of her city she traveled to the VII Semana Aniversaria of the broadcasting station La Voz Dominicana in Santo Domingo. Her interpretation of Agustín Lara's famous song Granada earned her a scholarship to study at the broadcaster's Academia de Canto .

Stephen quickly became known through radio broadcasts and appearances in the capital's theaters and in 1952 he took part in the Dominican Republic's first television broadcast. At the XIV Semana Aniversaria by La Voz Dominicana in 1956, she sang in Pietro Mascagni's opera Cavalleria rusticana alongside Tony Curiel , Legia Monsanto , Luz Pichardo and Napoleón Dihmes . From 1961 to 1963 she lived in Italy, where she participated in various television productions. She then returned to the Dominican Republic and, apart from individual appearances, withdrew from professional singing.
