Adolf Wilhelm (born May 15, 1632 in Weimar , † November 21, 1668 in Eisenach ) was Duke of Saxony-Eisenach .

Life

Adolf Wilhelm was a son of Duke Wilhelm IV of Saxe-Weimar and his wife Eleonore Dorothea , born Princess of Anhalt. Already at the age of nineteen he traveled to foreign countries, namely France , then in 1656 he took military service as a colonel with King Karl X. Gustav of Sweden, who was then at war against Poland , and was distinguished by courage and bravery. But at a meeting on Fühnen he got into imperial captivity, from which he was freed by being replaced by an imperial colonel. When he returned to Sweden in 1661, King Karl Gustav made him major general of the infantry with a salary of 2000 thalers .

After his father's death (1662) Adolf Wilhelm shared with his three brothers Johann Ernst , Johann Georg and Bernhard , the father's country, on which occasion he castle , city and office Eisenach , Office Gerstungen and house Breitenbach , Office Lichtenberg and the city of Ostheim received , while the Wilhelmsburg , the large Welsche garden, the Weimar residence, the Wartburg house, the Zillbach and the associated wood, the land and drink tax, the Saal, Ilmen and Werra rafts and other things remained common to all four brothers. The city of Eisenach became his residence, Zacharias Prueschenck von Lindenhofen , his privy councilor, state director and supervisor of Eisenach.

Under the company name Der Edele he was accepted as a member of the literary fruitful society .

In 1663 Adolf Wilhelm married Princess Marie Elisabeth , a daughter of Duke August von Braunschweig . He fathered five sons with her, four of whom did not survive her birth for long and the last ( Wilhelm August ), born after his death, also died at the age of under three. Adolf Wilhelm's part of the country fell to his three brothers. He died in Eisenach on November 21, 1668. His widow married Duke Albrecht von Sachsen-Coburg in 1676 and did not die until 1687.
