Hercule von Monaco (born September 24, 1562 , † November 21, 1604 in Monaco ) from the Grimaldi family was Lord of Monaco from 1589 to 1604 .

Hercule was the third eldest son of Honoré of Monaco . He had attended university and had a university degree from Pavia . Originally he wanted to be a clergyman.

Since the second oldest brother had already died when his eldest brother died, he took control of Monaco in May 1589. His most important activity was to pay off the debts of Monaco after the rule of his brother and to fight against the empty coffers. Due to the economic weakness, there is even famine in Monaco.

On October 11, 1595, Hercule married Princess Maria Landi de Valdetare , who was descended from the kings of Portugal and Aragon. The happy marriage ends when Maria dies giving birth to a third child. In the future, Hercule turns out to be a womanizer, which ultimately becomes his undoing. On November 21, 1604 he was stabbed from behind and his body was thrown into the sea.

Hercules' successor is his son Honoré II , who is only seven years old. His uncle Federico Landi , Prince of Valdetare, took over his guardianship .
