Berthold Albrecht (born August 14, 1954 in Essen ; † November 21, 2012 in Chur ) was a German manager and co-owner of the companies Aldi Nord and Trader Joe’s .

Life

Berthold Albrecht was one of two sons of Aldi- Nord founder Theo Albrecht . He was the chairman of the non-dissolvable Markus Foundation , which is responsible for the total assets of Aldi-Nord. There he was mainly responsible for the US food retail chain Trader Joe’s , which has been part of the Aldi-Nord group since 1979 . He also owned Weba-Holding GmbH. According to the obituary of Der Spiegel magazine , he hardly played a role in the company. It was mainly intended his hobby vintage - rallies be investigated.

Berthold Albrecht was one of the richest Germans . In the Forbes list for 2012, he was in second place with his brother Theo Albrecht junior , who owns Hutha Holding GmbH, with an estimated total assets of around US $ 17.8 billion, behind their uncle Karl Albrecht .

With his wife Babette , geb. Schönbohm, Albrecht had five children, including quadruplets born in 1990 . He died of complications from cancer. Since the death of her husband, Babette Albrecht and the five children have received an annual payment of 25 million euros from the Jakobus Foundation.
