Theo Albrecht junior (* 1950 in Essen ) is a German manager and co-owner of the companies Aldi Nord and Trader Joe’s .

Origin, occupation and private matters

Theo Albrecht junior is the oldest son of the Aldi Nord founder Theo Albrecht (1922–2010). After graduating from high school in Switzerland in 1969 , Theo Albrecht junior began studying economics at the University of Innsbruck , which he completed in 1980 with a degree in business administration. Since then he has been working for the discounter Aldi Nord. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1982 and is currently Vice Chairman of the non-dissolvable Markus Foundation , which manages the total assets of Aldi Nord and the US food retail chain Trader Joe's. Albrecht also owns Hutha Holding GmbH.

Theo Albrecht junior is married and has one daughter. He is the only member of the Albrecht family who is still active in the Aldi discounter. Aldi-Nord and Aldi-Süd are run exclusively by non-family managers . Theo Albrecht junior is considered to be public shy and has only given an interview to the Handelsblatt on June 1, 2016. There is only one older photo in the media (Theo Albrecht junior standing in front of a Mercedes-Benz 126 series ), there are no TV recordings.

Legal dispute with sister-in-law Babette Albrecht

Theo Albrecht junior is currently in a legal dispute with his sister-in-law Babette Albrecht . Theo Albrecht junior and his mother Cäcilia, the wife of Aldi Nord founder Theodor Paul Albrecht (1922-2010), accuse Babette Albrecht's family of wanting to pull too much money out of the company. However, this is vehemently denied by the other side. You don't allow yourself an inadequate lifestyle and, moreover, are interested in actively contributing to the good development of the group. Rather, statements by Theo and Cäcilia Albrecht in terms of "malevolence cannot be surpassed," it says in a letter. In truth, Albrecht junior is only interested in "seizing power in the company and dismantling the family of his deceased brother". Albrecht junior and Cäcilia Albrecht deny this. The Schleswig Higher Administrative Court will most likely be hearing in the second half of 2017 on the family dispute between the Albrecht family. It's about the balance of power at the Jakobus Foundation, which holds important shares in Aldi Nord and Trader Joe's. The other two foundations are named Lukas and Markus. All three foundations have to unanimously approve important corporate decisions, such as investments in foreign markets or contract extensions for top managers. The composition of the board of the Jakobus Foundation is controversial.

Albrecht is a multi-billionaire and is one of the 10 richest people in Germany. In The World's Billionaires for 2017 by the US business magazine Forbes , his fortune is estimated at 18.8 billion US dollars (about 16.1 billion euros ). It ranks 44th in it.
