Plácido de Abreu

Plácido António Cunha de Abreu (born November 21, 1903 in Lisbon , † June 10, 1934 in Vincennes , France) was a Portuguese aerobatic pilot.

Life

Abreu studied at the Colégio Militar and later at the Military Academy. He was initially assigned to the infantry. Wanting to fly, he took flying lessons in Sintra and began flying himself as a pilot in 1929.

The following year he started aerobatics . His daring soon earned him an international reputation. In 1932 he was among the top three non-Americans at the great Cleveland Air Show .

At the aerobatic world championships in Vincennes in 1934, he crashed his machine, which went up in fire on the ground. Abreu died in the wreck.
