Life

Arena began his film career in 1952 with a small role in the light comedy Bellezze in moto-scooter and had great success with his interpretation of the beautiful, daring heartthrob in the three-part Poveri series, which began in 1956. For four or five years he was one of the most successful actors in Italy, who made around 50 films in the ten years up to 1961. In addition to his roles in a total of about 80 works (between 1971 and 1976 he shot again film on film) he directed two films himself with moderate success, for which he also contributed the script. His acting career was, after the great initial success, exposed to a slow but steady decline. Instead, gossip news about his sometimes turbulent lifestyle of the Roman “Dolce Vita” dominated the headlines. In later years Arena also acted as a "healer". After his early death from a heart attack in the Casal Palocco district, a square was named after him in Rome and a plaque was placed on the house where he was born in Via della Garbatella 24 .

A love affair with the noble Maria Beatrice of Savoy made headlines in 1967.
