Christian August von Eyben (born August 30, 1700 in Schleswig ; † January 21, 1785 in Lübeck ) was a German lawyer and cathedral dean of the Lübeck bishopric .

Live and act

Eyben came from a family of lawyers and diplomats; he was the son of the diplomat Christian Wilhelm von Eyben and his wife Barbara Louise, b. Fabrice, and grandsons of Hulderich von Eyben and Weipart Ludwig von Fabrice . As early as 1718 he gained a canon position at Lübeck Cathedral .

After a cavalier journey with his brother Friedrich , who was one year older , he entered the service of the Prince-Bishop of Lübeck Christian August , his godfather , initially as a chamberlain . He became an assessor in the judiciary, the rent chamber and in the consistory and rose to the position of chief steward of Christian August's wife, Albertine Friederike von Baden-Durlach.

On August 12, 1763, he was elected Domkapitel the dean . In 1778 he appears as Decanus emeritus . After his death his preamble went to Johann Georg Arnold von Brokes .

In 1735 he married Elisabeth Sophia Maria von Hassberge (1717–1782) in Brunswick Cathedral . The couple had eight children:

  1. Elisabeth Sophia Maria von Eyben (1736–1780), from 1766 first maid of the Queen Caroline Mathilde
  2. Friedrich Ludwig von Eyben (1738–1793) , Danish ambassador to Naples and Regensburg
  3. Christian Wilhelm von Eyben (1741–1774)
  4. Adolf Gottlieb von Eyben (1741–1811), was adopted by Friedrich von Eyben, Chancellor in Glückstadt
  5. Albertine Friederike von Eyben (1743–1809)
  6. Joachim Werner von Eyben (1746–1811), officer, most recently colonel in Oldenburg
  7. Charlotte Christiane Augusta von Eyben (1748–1830), conventual at Lüne Abbey
  8. August Wilhelm Gottlob von Eyben (1751 – after 1804), Russian budget adviser

Christian August and his wife were buried in a north-eastern ambulatory chapel of Lübeck Cathedral. Your grave slab is preserved.
