Christian Wilhelm von Eyben (born May 31, 1663 in Gießen ; † September 1, 1727 in Osnabrück ) was a German lawyer and diplomat.

Live and act

He came from the East Frisian noble family von Eyben and was the son of the lawyer Hulderich von Eyben . Since 1680 he studied law at the University of Helmstedt . After a cavalier journey , he became court advisor to Margrave Friedrich VII Magnus von Baden-Durlach . After the cremation of Durlach and the expulsion of the court by the French in 1689, he went to Celle and in 1690 became court advisor to Duke Georg Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Lüneburg . In 1698 he moved to the court in Gottorf Castle and served the Dukes Friedrich IV and Karl Friedrich of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf and his guardians as a diplomat. In 1707 he was envoy to the imperial court in Vienna and in 1711 to the Reichstag in Regensburg . In 1716 he was appointed Chancellor of the Osnabrück Monastery by Prince-Bishop Ernst August II of Hanover .

In 1690 he married Lucia Barbara, the daughter of the diplomat Weipart Ludwig von Fabrice . Of several children, only two sons survived the father: Friedrich von Eyben (1699–1787) and Christian August von Eyben .

Eyben has been an author of legal and historical works since he was 21. He corresponded with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Johann Winckler , among others .
