Harry von Zell
Harry von Zell (born July 11, 1906 in Indianapolis , Indiana , † November 21, 1981 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American singer, radio and television broadcaster and actor.
Von Zell began his career after attending the University of California in 1927 as a singer and announcer on the radio, including for Bing Crosby . In the 1930s he also worked as a singer with jazz musician Charlie Barnet .
He achieved legendary fame when, through a slip of the tongue, he called the American President Herbert Hoover “Hoobert Heever” in 1931 . In the 1950s he appeared on television comedy shows as a partner of George Burns and Gracie Allen on the Burns Allen Show (1951-1958) and the George Burns Show (1958-1959). He was employed by the CBS for six years . In the course of his long television career he worked with Eddie Cantor , Fred Allen , Phil Baker , Dinah Shore and Joan Davis, among others , and was inducted into the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame after his death .
He also took part in more than 40 films and television series between 1935 and 1980, often playing himself. His appearance in You're in the Navy Now (aka USS Teakettle ) alongside Gary Cooper as Captain Eliot was legendary .
