outline
The outline of an object is a curve, which separates the object from its environment to a viewer. The word component crack (from “scratch”, “tear”) has the meaning “drawing” as in elevation, floor plan or oblique view. The outline of an object depends not only on the shape of the object, but also on the direction from which an observer is observing the object. Other names for the outline are contour or silhouette (in art and photography).
Applications of the outline
- In Descriptive Geometry , curved surfaces are represented by the construction of their outlines. See Outline Construction .
- In art, a silhouette is used to draw the viewer's attention to the outline of an object or person that is important to the artist. One speaks here of a silhouette .
- In photography, backlit shots are used to highlight the silhouettes of objects.
- In image processing , the outlines of objects play an essential role in tracking moving objects.
- In the graphical representation, simplified outlines of objects appear in pictograms .
