Gabriel Gervais Chardin
Gabriel Gervais Chardin (born November 21, 1814 in Paris , † October 1907 there) was a French landscape and animal painter . He belonged to the Barbizon School .
life and work
Chardin was a student of Camille Roqueplan and Constant Troyon . One of his pictures was exhibited for the first time in 1841 in the Salon de Paris , the official exhibition of contemporary French artists, and again almost every year from 1845 to 1868. Mostly they were landscapes from the Paris area, especially the area around Compiègne and Étampes , often with animals, e.g. B. cows or hunting dogs, equipped. Realistic open-air painting and designing great depths show his mastery as a painter of the Barbizon school.
