Wilhelm Gustav Illbruck (born September 26, 1927 in Opladen ; † November 21, 2004 in Pattscheid ) was a German entrepreneur and ocean sailor .

After training as a toolmaker , military service and five years as a Soviet prisoner of war , he first worked for the Deutsche Bundesbahn and later in the cardboard industry .

In 1952 he founded Illbruck GmbH for plastics technology (today Carcoustics ) in Pattscheid .

In the 1980s and 1990s, Willi Illbruck and his partner Hans-Otto Schümann determined the German offshore sailing scene. In 1983 and 1993 he won the Admiral's Cup ( Skipper : Russell Coutts ) with his yachts Pinta , the Sardinia Cup in 1984 , and the One-Ton-Cup in 1993 and 1994 .

On September 26, 2002, his 75th birthday, Illbruck was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on November 19, 2001 . He was married and had two children.

The company Illbruck was under its new owner, the son of Michael Illbruck main sponsor of the sailing team of the same name, the one with the yacht Illbruck the Volvo Ocean Race gained the victory from 2001 to 2002.

In 2004 the Willi Illbruck Racing Foundation was founded in memory of Willi Illbruck, who had set itself the goal of supporting a German star boat and 470 team for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .
