One-tone cup
The One-Ton-Cup or one- tonne trophy is a sailing regatta trophy that was first donated in 1898 by the French yacht club Cercle de la Voile de Paris and was sailed on the Seine off Meulan in France. The official name is La Coupe Internationale du Cercle de la Voile de Paris .
History of the cup
This cup, also known for short as the One-Ton-Cup, got its abbreviation from the boat class for which it was donated, the yachts that measured a ton according to the racing formula valid at the time, i.e. H. had a ton of keel weight. In 1907 corresponding 6mR yachts about the provisions of surveying formula with now superseded Giraglia . The trophy was newly donated for this.
The one-tonne trophy itself is designed in Art Nouveau style, the water lily leaves and winding lines characterize the art style of the late 19th century. The design comes from the jeweler Robert Linzeler from 1897. The cup weighs 10 kg and its contents hold 30 bottles of sparkling wine.
From 1906 to 1910, many German yachts won the One-Ton-Cup. In the years 1908 to 1910 he was sailed off Kiel . Over the years, especially after the 6mR class left the Olympic program in 1956, the owners lost more and more interest in the class and thus also in the one-tonne trophy. In 1962 (the 49th edition of the cup) only four 6mR yachts took part in the regattas off Palma . The tender was then changed in 1965 for sea cruisers according to the IOR formula (International Offshore Rule). A one-tonne truck was now a regatta yacht whose IOR racing value was a maximum of 27.5 feet .
Mode of the one-tonne trophy
The One-Ton-Cup is sailed in a regatta series of four races:
- a high sea regatta from 200 to 300 nautical miles
- a sea regatta of around 150 nautical miles
- two regattas near the coast from 30 to 50 nautical miles as triangular races.
The winner of the one-tonne trophy will defend the trophy in local waters.
