Horst Berend Beilken , (born March 17, 1940 in Bremen ) is a German sailor and entrepreneur.

biography

Beilken comes from the sailmaker family of his grandfather Friedrich Beilken. His father was Bernhard Beilken and his older brother is the sailor and sailmaker Hans Beilken.

In 1956, after completing secondary school, he began his training as a sailmaker at the Friedrich Beilken family business . After serving in the army, he passed the master sailmaker exam in 1964. In 1967 he became co-owner of his grandfather's business alongside his brother Hans. The company developed into the largest German sailmaker.
The Beilken brothers relocated the company headquarters from Bremen - Vegesack to Lemwerder .

Berend Beilken also made a name for himself as a sea regatta sailor. After the one-tonne victories of his brother Hans, he achieved second place in the one- tonne world championship ( One-Ton-Cup ) as the helmsman of the gumboots in 1975 and 1978 . As the skipper of the Helisara , the Pinta and, most recently, the Diva , he won the international regatta for the Admiral's Cup three times in 1983, 1985 and 1993 , which at the time was the unofficial world championship for sea sailing. As the Beilken Brothers , the brothers were known in sailing circles around the world.

In 1995 the brothers sold the sailmaking business and ended their sporting career. Even before that, in 1990, Berend Beilken had very successfully embarked on his own path with the founding of today's Procedes Chenel Beilken Digital Printing Werbegesellschaft mbH in Bremen. The company designs, prints and produces large-area textile elements for representative and decorative use in trade fair and congress halls, sports facilities, reception and sales lobbies, on facades and in public open spaces.

Beilken is married and has two sons, Alexander and Björn, both of whom have already become national champions as sailors.
