history

The company was founded in Pattscheid in 1952 by Wilhelm Gustav Illbruck , who later became known as an offshore regatta sailor, as Illbruck GmbH. The processing of plastics was planned from the start. The first products were for the sanitary and construction sectors. Only later were the automotive applications added to the range. The parts of the company that dealt with the construction sector were sold in the course of the transfer of ownership.

In 2001 the company was taken over by the private equity company NIB Capital Private Equity and renamed Carcoustics. In 2008 Carcoustics expanded its business area to include commercial vehicles and selected industrial projects. With effect from the end of 2016, the Dare Group is a new investor in Carcoustics.

In June 2015, the Federal Cartel Office imposed fines amounting to 75 million euros on the five automotive suppliers Autoneum , Carcoustics, Greiner Perfoam , Ideal Automotive and the German subsidiary of the IAC for illegal price fixing in the period from 2005 to 2013. This penalty related to agreements in the product area of carpet production for automotive applications. Since Carcoustics had not operated the carpet production segment for a long time at the time of the penalty, the penalty for Carcoustics was proportionally lower than for the other companies.
