The men's 20 km individual race in biathlon at the 2018 Winter Olympics took place on February 15, 2018 at 8:20 p.m. The venue was the Alpensia Biathlon Center . The start was originally planned at 8:00 p.m. Since the women's individual race from the previous day had also been postponed to February 15 due to strong winds, the start of the men's race was postponed by 20 minutes. The gold medal went to the Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bø , ahead of Jakov Fak from Slovenia and Dominik Landertinger from Austria.

Competition description

The individual competition is the oldest discipline in biathlon and is therefore also considered a "classic". The 20 km are divided into five equally long running laps, after the first four the athletes have to hit five targets at the shooting range in the order lying-standing-lying-standing. Unlike in the other disciplines, the athletes received a penalty of one minute for each target not hit. The winner was whoever achieved the fastest overall time at the finish.

Total ascent: 670 m, maximum ascent: 38 m, difference in altitude: 37 m
86 participants from 26 countries, all in the rating.
