The women's individual 15 km race in biathlon at the 2018 Winter Olympics took place on February 15, 2018 at 5:15 p.m. The venue was the Alpensia Biathlon Center . The original plan was to hold the race on February 14, 2018 at 8:05 p.m. Due to irregular competition conditions caused by strong winds, the race had to be postponed to the following day. The young Swede Hanna Öberg , who had not yet reached the podium in the World Cup, surprisingly won the gold medal. Silver went to Anastasiya Kuzmina from Slovakia , who had already won silver in the pursuit race . After gold in the sprint and in the pursuit, the bronze medal went to German Laura Dahlmeier .

Competition description

The individual competition is the oldest discipline in biathlon and is therefore also a “classic”. The 15 km were divided into five equally long running laps, after the first four the athletes had to hit five targets at the shooting range in the order lying-standing-lying-standing. Unlike in the other disciplines, the athletes were given a penalty of one minute for each disc not hit. The winner was whoever had the fastest overall time at the finish.

Total ascent: 510 m, maximum ascent: 38 m, difference in altitude: 37 m
87 participants from 27 countries, all in the rating.
