Yekaterina Sergejewna Avvakumova ( Russian Екатерина Сергеевна Аввакумова ; English Yekaterina Avvakumova ; born October 26, 1990 in Veliky Ustyug , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian-South Korean biathlete who has competed for South Korea since 2017 .
Career
Avakumova made her international debut at the 2015 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Cheile Grădiştei , where she competed as the starting runner of the Russian mixed relay that won the race. After this success she was used in the sprint and the pursuit, where she took 19th and 10th place.
At the 2015 Winter Universiade , Awwakumova won silver in the pursuit. In 2016 she won silver in the mass start at the Russian biathlon championships.
On January 5, 2017, it was announced that Avakumova had received South Korean citizenship and was thus changing to the South Korean Association. Then she got her first job in the IBU Cup in Martell , where she finished 37th in the sprint and 25th in the pursuit. Avakumova achieved her best result so far in the IBU Cup in Osrblie , where she was nineteenth in the pursuit.
The Biathlon World Championships 2017 in Hochfilzen Awwakumowa was used for the first time in the World Cup. With the South Korean mixed relay she finished 19th, in the sprint she was 63rd and missed the chase. In the individual, she surprisingly came in fifth, making it into the top 10 and in the points for the first time. So she qualified for the mass start.
