Emily Dreissigacker (born November 29, 1988 ) is a former American biathlete .

Private life

Emily Dreissigacker grew up in Morrisville , Vermont, USA . Her mother Judy Geer took part as a rower in the 1976 and 1984 Olympic Games , her father Dick Dreissigacker is a five-time American rowing champion, took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and later founded the rowing and cross-country skiing supplier with Emily's uncle Peter Concept2 . Her siblings Hannah (* 1986) and Ethan (* 1991) are also biathletes, but neither are currently active.

Career

Emily Dreissigacker learned to ski as a small child and took part in national youth and junior championships during her time at People's Academy High School . She started rowing during her senior year in high school and competed in the Junior World Championships in the summer of 2007. When she moved to Dartmouth College to study economics, she joined the university's rowing team and became a two-time American junior champion and competed in the U23 World Championships. After her time in college, she joined the rowing team at the Green Racing Project in Craftsbury , but soon decided to switch back to cross-country skiing. She also tried her hand at biathlon and quickly found pleasure in this sport.

Dreissigacker played her first international competition at the IBU Cup of the 2015/16 season on January 9, 2016 in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic . She finished this sprint race in 75th place after five shooting errors. The following winter she started again in the IBU Cup and also competed at the 2017 European Biathlon Championships in Duszniki-Zdrój .

On November 26, 2017, she participated in her first World Cup race , the season opener in Sweden Östersund , in part. After she and her teammate Leif Nordgren were overtaken in the single mixed relay, they finished 19th. In January 2018, she competed in a number of races in the IBU Cup, which the US Association served as internal qualifying competitions for the 2018 Winter Olympics . Shortly thereafter, she was nominated for participation in the Winter Games. She was the only woman in the US team who could qualify in the sprint for the pursuit race , she finished the competitions in positions 51 and 47. In the individual competition , she finished 67th with four shooting errors.

After Donald Trump announced that entry to the United States from Europe would be suspended from March 13, 2020, the US biathlon team departed early from the penultimate World Cup of the 2019/20 season in Kontiolahti in the early morning of March 12, 2020 . On the same day, Emily Dreissigacker announced her immediate retirement from active competitive sports.
