Vladimir Mikhailovich Melanin ( Russian Владимир Михайлович Меланьин ; December 1, 1933 , † August 10, 1994 ) was a Russian biathlete .

In 1964 Melanin , who started for the Soviet Union , became Olympic champion at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck over the 20 kilometers in biathlon , the only individual competition in this discipline at the time. He won ahead of his compatriot Alexander Priwalow and the Norwegian Olav Jordet . Melanin also won the gold medal over 20 kilometers at the biathlon world championships in 1959 , 1962 and 1963 , as well as in 1959, 1962 and 1963 with the relay. In 1965 he won another season silver. Melanin is still one of the ten most successful male biathlon athletes at world championships.
