The Ettaler Forst is a community-free area in the Upper Bavarian district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
location
The Ettaler Forest covers large parts of the eastern area of the Ammergau Alps . Its northern neighbors are the communities Saulgrub , Unterammergau and the Ettal , which gives it its name . In the east are the communities of Oberau and Farchant and in the south Garmisch-Partenkirchen , all of which are in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. In the west, the Swabian district of Ostallgäu borders the municipality of Halch on the Ettal Forest and the municipality of Reutte in Tyrol . The castle complex of Schloss Linderhof is enclosed by the northern part of the area on three sides (north, west, south), only in the east it borders on the rest of the Ettal community.
description
With an area of 83.46 km², the Ettaler Forest is the largest community-free area in Bavaria and the eighth largest in Germany. The forest was first owned by the Ettal Abbey , but in the course of secularization in 1803 it became the property of the Kingdom of Bavaria and thus became state property . The state forest was a popular hunting ground for Bavarian kings and is known for its abundance of wood and game.
Well-known peaks such as Klammspitze , Kreuzspitze and Notkarspitze lie in the Ettal Forest . The Friederspitz lies exactly on the municipality boundary with the Garmisch-Partenkirchen market. The Linder arises in the Ettal Forest near the state border from the confluence of two source streams and flows through it through the Graswang Valley to Linderhof Castle.
There is no population in the forest area. The fountain head houses on the fountain head above Linderhof Palace are the only architectural monument in the Ettal Forest.
Land use
The forest takes up almost 54 percent of the area, followed by rocks (which, according to the official land categorization, belong to the non- land ) with a good 42 percent. In addition, the category agricultural land is worth mentioning with 2.6 percent. The other area categories are negligible.
