Großweil is located in the Oberland region on the Loisach between Murnau and Kochel . The Heimgarten (1790 m) and Herzogstand (1731 m) hiking mountains are not far away. The open-air museum on the Glentleiten is located in the southwest of the municipality .

history

Until the church is planted

Großweil belonged to the Munich Rent Office and the Weilheim district court of the Electorate of Bavaria .

20th century

Until 1962 there was a coal shale mining in the municipality . A concrete archway on Murnauer Strasse, which was built in 1917/18 as a protective structure for the conveyor cableway of the former lignite mine, is a reminder of this time. Above Großweil is the site of the Glentleiten open-air museum in the Upper Bavaria district. Its task is to collect original buildings from Upper Bavaria and to rebuild and equip them on the museum grounds.
