history

Until the church is planted

Krün was first mentioned as geruen in 1294 with two vaccariae ( Schwaigen ) belonging to Benediktbeuern monastery . The original field name is based on the Middle High German word gerüne (a heap, a number of cut down tree trunks). In 1491 the monastery needed considerable funds for the reconstruction because of the monastery fire in the previous year and sold Krün, which now has four farms, to the Hochstift Freising , to which the place was subject until 1803. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 it belonged to the Electorate of Bavaria . Krün was part of the former County of Werdenfels, which belonged to the Hochstift Freising . In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

The "Cross Relic" by Krün

Otto Freiherr von Ritter zu Groenesteyn was from 1909 to 1934 Bavarian envoy to the "Holy See" . For his services over the course of his 25 years of activity he received a farewell gift from Pope Pius XI. a cross relic with an allegedly real splinter (particle) of the "holy cross of the Lord Jesus Christ ". Von Ritter had a silver reliquary made in baroque style for the storage of “this priceless, valuable relic” , which he donated to the Church of St. Sebastian in Krün in 1934 .

Since 1912, the von Ritter family had been so closely connected to the community of Krün through annual vacation stays that Otto Freiherr von Ritter zu Groenesteyn was given honorary citizenship in 1934 on his 70th birthday for his solidarity and services to the community .

G7 summit

Krün hosted the G7 summit in 2015 . This was held on June 7th and 8th, 2015 in Elmau Castle , which belongs to the municipality . On the occasion of the G7 summit, Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama paid a visit to the village population of Krün in front of the town hall.

coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: In red a golden miter with hanging ribbons, which is crossed at an angle and underlaid with a silver raftsman's hook and a silver abbot's staff. The colors red, gold and silver represent both the spiritual manors of the Benediktbeuern monastery (red / silver) and the Hochstift Freising (red / gold) as well as the political affiliation to the former county of Werdenfels. The miter also reminds of the Freisinger, the abbot of the Benediktbeurer domain. The raftsman's hook documents the great importance of this craft for Krün and its economic development over the past centuries.
