Meromictic lake |
|
The Barmsee is a maximum 1.12 km long and maximum 0.49 km wide lake in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen ( Upper Bavaria ) in the area of the municipality of Krün north of Mittenwald . There is a small swimming area on the north-west bank of the lake.
The protected location and its relatively great water depth mean that the deeper water layers are not completely mixed in spring and autumn - it is a meromictic (only partially mixed) lake. As a result, deeper water layers remain oxygen-free.
Place Barmsee
On the southern shore of the lake is the Krüner district of Barmsee , which has existed for around 150 years.
