The Venet [ ˈfɛnət ], also called Venetberg , is a mountain in the Ötztal Alps near Landeck and Imsterberg in western Tyrol , the Tyrolean Oberland . The highest point is the 2512 m high Glanderspitze , other peaks are the Wannejöchl with 2497 m , the Kreuzjoch with 2464 m and the 2208 m high Krahberg .
Location and landscape
The Venet massif is located at the northern end of the Kaunergrat , forms a west-north-east curved mountain ridge and extends over 15 km between Landeck and Imsterberg . The Bergstock is mainly bordered by the Oberinntal , which, coming from the south, bypasses the Venet to the west, before the valley at Landeck changes direction in an 80 ° right bend and thus accompanies the northwestern roof of the Venet. Starting from the Pillerhöhe above the Inn valley, the Pillertal and the Pitztal border the Venet massif in the southeast and east. The main peaks are about 7 kilometers as the crow flies east of Landeck.
geology
Geologically speaking, the Venet is a mountain range that differs greatly from its surroundings. It belongs to the Landeck quartz phyllite zone , a type of rock and soil that mainly consists of quartz-containing clay mica schist, the phyllite , which flakes into tiny flakes due to weathering and frost. This gave it its characteristic appearance, which sets it apart from the alpine surroundings, Kaunergrat in the south, Geigenkamm in the east and the Lechtal Alps in the north-west. Due to its surface, smoothed round by Ice Age glaciers, without a pronounced rock structure, it forms a good alpine and forest floor for agriculture.
tourism
For tourism, the Venet is a popular hiking area with easy-to-use trails thanks to its gentle low mountain range , its easy accessibility and its convenient location. Due to a good relationship between the inclination angle of its slopes and the sunlight he is by his thermals a popular mountain for sailing and paragliding . On the Krahberg (previously common name: Grabberg; so called in older maps) there is a ski area that can be reached via cable cars and lifts from Zams and Fließ . The Venet summit hut has been located next to the mountain station since winter 2012/13. On the Venet there is a transmission mast of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, ORF , for the distribution of television and radio programs (ORF internally referred to the old name “Grabberg” in the channel lists).
The ski and snowboard scenes from the Hollywood film Once Again Holidays with Queen Latifah were filmed on the Venet .
