Stefan Tilg

Stefan Tilg (born July 2, 1976 in Zams ) is an Austrian classical and neo-Latin philologist .

Life

Stefan Tilg studied classical philology and German at the University of Innsbruck from 1994 to 2000 . He spent a year at the University of Siena in 1999/2000 as part of the Erasmus program . After passing the state examination, he completed a teaching internship at the Reithmannstrasse grammar school in Innsbruck from 2000 to 2001; then he took up a doctoral degree in Classical Philology / Latin. From 2002 to 2003 he was research assistant in the project History of Latin Literature in Tyrol . Even after his departure, he continued to work as a freelancer in this project until the end of 2012.

After his doctorate as Dr. phil. (2003) Tilg worked as an assistant at the Latin chair at the University of Bern . The Swiss National Science Foundation awarded him a research grant for his project Poetics in the Ancient Roman , which enabled him to spend a longer period at Corpus Christi College at Oxford University (2006 to 2009). Tilg then received another grant from the National Fund for the Apuleius and the Ancient Novel project , which he pursued at the University of Zurich . At the same time he completed his habilitation in Zurich in 2009/2010 in Classical Philology and Modern Latin Philology.

In 2011 Tilg was appointed director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Neo-Latin Studies in Innsbruck. At the same time he held lectures at the University of Zurich as a private lecturer until 2014. In the 2014/15 winter semester, he accepted a professorship for Latin Studies at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Stefan Tilg's main research interests are the ancient novel, neo-Latin literature and the reception of ancient literature.
