Otto Hense
Kurt Otto Friedrich Hense (born April 11, 1845 in Halberstadt ; † March 11, 1931 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German classical philologist .
Life
As the son of a teacher who was frequently transferred, Hense attended various Prussian high schools. After graduating from Leipzig (1864), he studied Classical Philology, Philosophy and Ancient History at the Universities of Erlangen , Leipzig and Halle . In 1868 he received his doctorate with Theodor Bergk and Gottfried Bernhardy in Halle with the dissertation Exercitationes criticae imprimis in Euripidis fragmentis . He then worked as a high school teacher and qualified as a professor in Halle in 1872 for his subject. In 1876 he was appointed to the chair for classical philology at the University of Freiburgwhich he held until his retirement in 1909. In the academic year 1893/1894 he was Vice Rector of the university.
